Rhythm, a Rolling Exhibition by Six Artists

6 artists meet on an art course and show their work together the following year

Artistic Connection

We’re 6 artists who bonded on a year-long course with Paintbox School of Art, East Lothian, and exhibited work at Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh back in June/July 2023.

That’s myself with Ronnie Cruwys, Margaret Findlay, Janette Sumner, Lorna Balmer and Gail Cadogan (left to right).

The camaraderie of the group and a desire to continue the supportive connection led us to hold a shared exhibition at The Dundas Street Gallery, in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town during Easter week 2024.

Living in different towns, our monthly get-together over coffee were lively with inspiration, stimulating conversations and ideas.

Rolling Exhibition ??

What’s a rolling exhibition, you ask.

It means you can take right away the painting, artist book or enamel work that you buy. And we put a new one in its place.

We have everything you need to pack up your artwork safely for transport, even on the bus.

We love wrapping your new artwork and watch you take it out of the galler

Connecting the Dots

It’s exciting for us to watch your giddiness when you put the red dot on the label, and then move the label to our ‘sold work’ area.

And we love handing over to you the artwork as you take it away to its forever home.

I was delighted when Catherine and Darren fell in love with my largest piece in the show, Peaceful Loch, and moved the label to our “sold work” section, or Pauline during the opening when she took away a painting called Take A Moment.

These in-person connections feel very special to us artists, as our passion for creating can be a solitary practice.

Rhythm

Each artist has developed a strong individual style and works according to their own rhythm and flow.

The camaraderie and mutual encouragement in the group, and the commitment to our art work, was the foundation of this exhibition.

There is a rhythm to our creative practice, from sketching to painting sessions, unwrapping new art supplies to washing our paint brushes.

It’s my hope you feel the sense of wonder and serenity in my paintings.

A wish for you to experience of a sense of zen in your home when you look at it.

Can you feel the West Coast vibe of this turquoise painting, called Rhythm ?

Acrylic on board, 40 x 40 cm, framed, £430, on display at The Dundas Street Gallery until Sat 6th April 2024.
